Arriving in Borneo (2nd March 2010)

Fortunately last night I was soooo tired I slept anyway or at least kinda did.

One of the guys I shared the room with is riding a motorbike across Asia so we chatted a bit over breakfast, I had heard him chatting to an American guy the night before and they were both pretty gung hoe and trying to out-do each other about trying to save the world and how they would go about it. Now I don’t mean to sound unkind here and as you all know I’m very interested in our planet and the people and wildlife in it and I do believe that everyone needs a little help at times but personally speaking I think everywhere and everyone could do without the help of either of these two, they made it sound like without their help we were all doomed! Mmm I wasn’t going to point out to them the obvious flaw in their plan.

Fortunately Mick came and met me at 10am and we headed off on the monorail to get a connection on to the express train to the airport. It was sad to say good bye to Mick as it’s been a great few days hanging out and spending time together and of course having my own personal tour guide was fantastic. Now I have to make it on my own! :-) I’m sure I’ll survive!

I arrived in Kota Kinabalu around 4pm and made my way into town to find the hostel, this I had booked yesterday so a little forward planning, not bad huh?
Kota Kinabalu is well known for the food and night markets so after dumping my bag I headed off in search. The market areas are huge and, I think probably, you name it they sell it, it’s incredible.
They do say South East Asia markets are amongst the best in the world and I’m inclined to agree and always so fantastically displayed and so much of it. Each area of the market sells something different, so you have the fish section, the vegetable section, the eating section etc. I only had a bit of a wander around but saw all types of fish and squid straight out of the sea, vegetables and fruit that looked so yummy and fresh. The Filipino BBQ area looked the most yummy, but only if you liked fish!

This aspect of Borneo I think I’m going to have to miss out on!
